Seeking help with flannel trouser fit & drape

These new trousers fit pretty well as far as comfort goes but they don’t have that straight clean drop from hip to hem that many of us are going for, especially in the back. Any advice on alterations or tweaks that could get me closer to a great fit and clean drape? My first thought is a shorter back rise, or just pulling them up higher in the back—not sure.

Too much curve under the seat making the thigh too tight.
These are Brooks Brothers Madison cut. They are a size too big around the waist, but I wear them with a jacket so that is just for comfort. The main point is the curving taper under the seat is not as pronounced. There is a straighter line from the widest point around the hip all the way to the cuff.

Agree, that “straight clean drop” is achieved by allowing the fabric to hang vertically. Compare the silhouette of your trousers to these (not mine). It does take getting used to visually on your own body.

Edit: @paxonus beat me to it.

Ok got it, thank you! So it sounds like I need more room around the thigh, primarily.

There's quite a bit of fabric in reserve so I wonder if a good alterations tailor could let out the hip and thigh to get me in a better place. I guess it's worth a try.

I wouldn't get them altered. They fit well and look good, but just don't have the cut you seem to want.

You can't turn a modern, trim fit into a traditional full cut just by letting out the seam allowances.

Thanks. Yeah, I think they look pretty good. I might see what my tailor thinks but I’m not going to risk messing them up unless it seems likely that there would be an improvement.
