Denim experts -- I need your help!!

For starters, the picture below is exactly the type of jeans I'm looking for. I've tried looking online but most of what's out there these days is either the raw denim look or the artificially mangled and torn up look. Realizing I may not be able to *buy* jeans in this condition, I've also tried researching on how to *bring* jeans to this condition (all I'm getting are random articles on bleaching and sand paper). To me, this is one of the most traditional denim looks there is, but still, I'm feeling stuck on how to achieve it.

Any advice? If you were going to set out to create this look, what exactly would you do? Which jeans would you buy and what would you do with them?

Thanks for your time.

nom de guerre has a wash that is fairly similar (or at least had a wash like this) if that is what your after: http://shop.nomdeguerre.net/products/narrow-fit-jean-2

you may have to call the ndg ny store to order though (if available). there are not many on-line retailers that carry ndg jeans anymore.
