Camel IMO isn't practical. The color is good for daytime wear but not evening.

Some very important work gets done during the day. This gent saw fit to wear his to the bakery.

Guy behind the wheel is also wearing a tan topcoat. It's about the black hats!

The guy who's still alive is wearing a more versatile shade of tan. The guy behind the wheel is wearing that very light, desaturated version of tan that I think is harder to wear.

Prob the reason why he's dead.

Brown/Black Herringbone. It's darker and richer than the photograph.

Beautiful mid grey herringbone

This is from the Loro Piana Topcoat book. Shade called "donkey" Looks really great. This one is Pure Cashmere $$$. Terrible picture

Some solid advice in this thread. If you're sure you'd be mostly wearing this over a 'City' suit, then navy is a good choice so you can alternate charcoal coat over navy suits then navy coat over grey suits.
The polo is more versatile with less formal clothes, as others have pointed out.
If I were starting from scratch with overcoats I would go: large-pattern grey herringbone > navy crombie/guards coat > camel polo coat

As long as this thread has veered from the the original camel colored
coat I am including one of my favorite coats which combines the formality
of a chesterfield with the informality of shetland tweed:

Great comments and advice from Derek and Despos!??. I haven’t seen this type of guidance in a thread in quite a while, and it’s nice to see.

I get it about wearing camel in the evening, assuming we're staying really formal here, but I don't see why camel, or the darker shade of vicuna (the color if not necessarily the fabric), cannot or should not be worn during the day with a darker suit. To my eye, it would look fine.

I don't think anyone said this

I'm not saying the statement is wrong. Simply offering my opinion. If I misread or misunderstood the statement, then I'll stand aside.
