Obviously, the leather is corrected grain. It's far from C&J Boston or Alden-quality calfskin. Not nearly as bad as the leather on Bass Weejuns, though. I checked one out at J. Crew and it felt like plastic.
But they have one thing that C&J and Alden loafers don't have: a hybrid leather and rubber sole. The heel on Sebago loafer is rubber, and it has been much more forgiving on my feet than any of my benchgrade shoes. The rest of the sole is welted leather.
At $120, it's a great beater shoe for business casual wear.
