I can see how this could happen. I mean, the thread title of "Seattle In October" and my OP where I explain we're flying in for a long weekend is pretty oblique and easily allows for one to assume I live in Seattle.

Piob, how was the trip?

I just got back from Sushi at Shiro's and it made me think of this post. I don't usually think of myself as a sushi fan, but it wa really enjoyable! The salmon roe was a bit challenging, texture wise, but overall I think the reason I haven't really loved sushi in the past is that I was served pieces that were both too cold and too large. Seems you need a smaller size and warmer temperature to really chew it properly and experience all the flavors and textures.

So we were VIP'ed due to the friend I was with. It was a great sushi experience and he's not quite on the same level as the place we did in Hawaii over the summer at the Ritz (Sushi Sho) but he's really, really good. Service was outstanding as was the product and the presentation. Shiro sent out several sakes that were life altering. Next post I'm on my phone just doing a picture dump for you.

The server was excellent. She was having a problem getting the cork out of the Champs so I offered to help her. She said she'd get it and I assured her both my friend and I were pretty handy at opening wines. She smiled and said at the pre-service staff briefing she was assigned a "local VIP somm" who was bringing an "out of town somm" for dinner. We really were expected and it was pretty cool.

Wow, that does look nice! I somehow didn't put two and two together when you were talking about your recent sake revelation in the wine thread that this was during your visit.

How was the rest of your trip?

It was excellent. From the flight to the suite to all the fun we had. First day, after quaffing too much vodka on the plane, we started the festivities at 4:30 and went until nearly 2a. Hit several places including Canon where we finished off the evening. Had an absolute blast at Canon. Another funky little place, all locals, was the Zigzag Cafe. Our dinner at Canlis was incredible. Beautiful building, great view from our table, and again VIP'ed due to friend. Chef even brought us through the kitchen on a Saturday night service. A ton of courses off menu to the table and one of the highlights was a simple pasta, but with five year old aged Parm, and chef came to the table personally to shave white truffles onto our plates.

MoPop, Chihuly and the Amazon sphere by ourselves, then lots of stops with friends. We were two blocks from Pike's and we were all over there. Down to Pier 52, antique market...we'll be back.

Glad you had a fun trip! I've never been to Zig-Zag, but it's known as being a great cocktail bar and the longtime home of Murray Stenson, who is credited as being a major player in the revival of the cocktail - specificallly repopularizing the Last Word.
