I need a few pairs of pants and a blazer for fall/winter. I've decided to go out on a limb and try some tailors in montreal other than the ones at Harry Rosen in the hopes of finding something to my liking for a bit less money. Harry Rosen has always been a safe bet. I know what i'm getting when i go there, but it is quite expensive. Given the tighter budget for clothes this year I'm willing to try something else. I've found one tailor at which the price is right, but given the price, I wonder about quality. I'd like to filter out the garbage as much as possible before I actually go to any shops.
While I've learned a lot since joining the forum, I don't have the practiced eye that some of you have. Some things are easy to spot, but I'm still fairly clueless about jacket construction and the right questions to ask.
What i'm looking for is a list of questions I could ask potential tailors so that I might have an idea as to the level of quality before I take the plunge. I figure that pants are fairly easy to get right in the grand scheme of things. Blazers, however, require more skill. So do any of you think you could help with a list?
As much as i'd love to, I'm not counting on finding an Attolini here, but there must be some sort of base standard for which a suit could be considered the work of a "master tailor".
Thanks for any help that's offered.
