I'm not one of those guys who are brave enough to wear suede in the rain...my go to rain shoes are Darltons, in Scotch Grain.

Definitely scotch grain. Suede is doable in the rain, but it visually gets more affected than scoth grain in my experience.

Can't go wrong with either I think.

But after my puppy attacked my suede shoes for a good 15 minutes (left her in my pickup with my shoes

) the only thing wrong with them was a broken shoe lace. I will never doubt suede again

The main reason I ask is I got caught in the torrential downpour last week with the suede boots. Pretty marked up but they brushed right out.

Maybe because I took care of them quickly vs being out all night after thru were wet?

If you are not going to be walking around in slushy/muddish conditions I actually recommend suede over scotch grain. I know, it sounds counter-intuitive. I think suede is way more resilient than what most here think.

OTOH, you can't go wrong with scotch grain either.

ps: Ignore this advice if you are one who worries about spots on suede.

I would never wear Suede in rain, snow or mud. It is much harder to clean up than normal leather.

Are Scotch grained Shell cordovan/crup leather more rain/snow resistant than regular shell...or scotch grain calf leather?

Why not spray your shoes with leather protector spray that guards against rain, snow, and salt?
