Ok, I got my Schubert shoes in the mail about a week ago. The fit of the shoes was okay, but not really better than RTW. But, considering I self-measured and they are wearable, I'm pretty happy. However, the color of the shoes was the ugliest brown I have ever seen. So, I decided to take some rubbing alcohol to them, then bake them in the sun for a few days, then polish them with a weird mixture of tan, brown, blue and cordovan shoe polish, then wax them, freeze them, polish and buff them. These are the results.

I don't know, I haven't really worn them yet. I've been "working on them" since I got them.

Definite improvement in the color..

How will you perform upkeep on that polish job?

They look like a dookie stick in the before picture.

Now they are nice.

My experience, in limited wear (5-6 wearings, probably) is that they wear ok. The footbed is fairly (hard), so there does not appear to as much "give" as with some other shoes, and thus less conforming of the footbed to your particular foot. There has been a small amount of loosening of the uppers through wear, but nothing major. Overall, I'd say they seem to have held up reasonably well (no strange creasing, no unusually advanced wear on the sole or edging, etc.) As odoreater commented, I've found the fit to be fine, but not significantly better than a well-fitting pair of RTW's.

Don't baking in the sun and freezing damage the leather and make it less durable?
