My younger brother attends a private school where the dress code proscribes "shoes (not boots) made of black, shinable leather". I'm curious what subversive / stylish options you clever gentlemen can brainstorm. His feet have surely not finished growing, so there's no point in investment. My ideas so far are Converse All Star Leather Oxes:

And Clarks Wallabees (which I believe are the only Clarks non-boots in black leather from their Original line?):

Yeah, I was wondering about that: technically they're chukka boots, but will any teachers know that??

Excellent, Max! Unfortunately, he's a little punk, so he'll only wear Streetwear (and even then, I'm not sure about the Wallabees). I already tried to convince him that crocodile leather would be amusing.

Jared, I'm also from Victoria and know the schools you are talking about: GNS, SMUS, etc. I know this will be a highly contrary opinion of this particular forum, but why not standard dress shoes with a shine. I see all the students wearing black runners and sneakers and all I can think is that they would look hugely better with a polished black captoe. It is rebellious by not conforming to the norm.

You didn't state his age, but I've always thought girls love a guy who knows how to dress and if you are wearing a blazer and charcoal pants then a polished black shoes looks best. Girls' opinions are always an easy way to convince a young man to do something.

*Take this opinion with a grain of salt from a young guy who wears jeans and sneakers, but pines for the age where captoes and wool slacks will not look out of place.

Those are streetwear. The only place you can buy them in New York is Trash and Vaudeville, the world's best punk shop. They're by underground shoes uk.
