^ FWIW, I think that's the main criticism people write about 'beach hut man'- they let the name give them a preconceived notion of what it 'should' smell like, and when the scent is wildly different, they don't like it.

It's inevitable that names will conjure an impression - that's what they are for, right? But we have to realise that sometimes the impression might be different for different people. I'm certainly not disappointed by being surprised!

Looking for splits of
Heely Sel Marin
Malle En Passant

anyone know of any good places other than basenotes?

There are several splitting groups on Fakebook, if you do FB. ( I pulled out of FB, but not because of the fragrance groups, who were/are a good bunch).

Eau de Guerlain for me today, because I am impatient for summer. Its a good quality EdC featuring the usual citrus notes, plus basil and caraway, on a light, soapy moss base.

Today wearing Pacific Rock Moss. Starts out very blue and watery, not in a watered down sense but almost mall-like fragrance but immediately transforms into a bright, green lemony scent. Not creamy like verbena though, definitely like bright fresh citrus and green herbs. Dries down into a light wood scent.

I was opposed to it first at the first try but this turned out nice.

Musc Ambre Gris by Affinessence Paris today. Definitely a musk, but a little tea and vetiver bring some freshness to it. Really nice as the weather gets warmer

Could someone recommend some scents?
I am looking for two colognes: one that is more Mediterranean and spring/summer, but that doesn't exude French Riviera so much as to make it revolting when worn on a rainy, 55 degree Fahrenheit, late Scottish spring day. And another that is suitable for both fall/winter wear and for evening wear year round.
I am fairly new to the world of scents, so I haven't developed a disposition towards any particular profile -- be it woods or floral or what not. I'm a student, so looking at the $40-$70 range (or will I need to go higher in order to avoid smelling cheap?).

Thanks much

I always enjoyed the scents of Azzaro Chrome I think that it's scent is very refreshing for summer and I just enjoy it. My other all time favorite is tom ford neroli portofino. I think that is one of the best scents for a man to be wearing.

Anyone thoughts on MFK's Oud Satin Mood? Thinking about buying a bottle, but keep going back and forth on whether I like it.

It's one of the more wearable ouds I've come across, but I'm not sure I'd wear it all that often. Also a bit pricey.

i love it. it doesn't make sense to buy the 70ml bottle. the 200ml one is better if you can split and decant it out

I haven’t worn Hermès Vetiver Tonka in a very long time and busted it out last night. What a fantastic fragrance - it’s warm and rich all while being gauzy and transparent. Ellena is definitely a genius in his style.

TF Black Violet. One of those early Private Blends that was discontinued pretty early. The name captures what it is very nicely: it's a dark, gothy violet. I enjoy it.
