I live in Berkeley and I was wondering if scarves are okay. I have one friend who wears a scarf and looks very emo, however I have another friend who can pull it off, but he is the kind of guy who would wear a scarf. I have never had, or had to own a scarf, and I was wondering if it is cool. I was thinking just like gray or black, maybe a slight pattern, but not much. What do you think?

Yea. It's all on your swag. One of your friends looks emo and **** while the other guy looks cool.

Don' like them worn when they don't jive with the climate, unless the personality directly matches the ability to wear them without function.

I love scarves but it is odd to wear them if the weather is not appropriate. Previously I only had dark colored ones, but recently picked up a purple one which I am liking for a pop of color.

I agree with the above. If it's cold, yay. If it's not, nay. I actually don't use scarves that much, but will when it's cold.

do it. There's nothing wrong with a simple scarf.

I'll agree that it rarely gets cold enough in California (especially Southern California) for a scarf. I go back east fairly regularly, so I have one to wear when I'm there. I was in Utica, N.Y. this weekend (sitting at JFK as I'm writing this) and I got drunk one of the nights and lost my scarf!

When it is cold out, some men wear scarves. Has nothing to do with your likely false conception of what 'emo' is.

Like others have said, scarves are great if the weather jives. We've had a lot of single-digit degree days and nights here in Michigan the last week, so I've been rocking my scarf all over the place.

I like scarves, but just don't have a proper jacket to really pull one off. In the right climate, they're certainly appropriate. But as has been mentioned, if you're wearing one improperly, you'll just end up looking like you're trying too hard.

I would respectfully disagree with a few of the previous posts. I think a scarf can add a bit of panache to your wardrobe and give an added air of sophistication. Of course it's all in how you wear it. If the weather isn't that cold try a light scarf and you may be surprised with the results.
