The Honda Motor Company has confirmed that it is pulling out of Formula 1 racing.

The company's chief executive Takeo Fukui told the media in Japan that the move was necessary because of difficult business conditions and added that there are no plans to supply engines in F1 either. The team in England is evaluating the possibilities for the future and the management, led by chief executive officer Nick Fry and team principal Ross Brawn, are "deeply committed to securing the team's future" and are engaged in looking for a new team owner, given that the team has high expectations for 2009.

Details are reported on several websites. Just Google away.

Maybe he just thinks the 2009 redesigns are ugly?

Who will challenge Force India for last place this year? Honda wasn't even competitive, so I don't see this as a surprise. They're staying in the other motorsports arenas where they actually stand a chance to place in the points.

I just feel bad for Jenson Button. He was loyal to that team and this is what he get's. Perhaps he takes Bourdais's seat at STR.

Oops, I was under the impression Honda would liquidate the team like Super Aguri did earlier in the year. They're simply selling the team at this point.

I won't miss Honda. Hopefully, someone buys the team up.

Maybe Lotus? Ha!

I'm looking forward to three Red Bull teams next year. I think Toyota is next.

F1 racing has become a joke, even with the new Aero. Mosley needs to step down and Bernie needs to make it more open and cheaper.

If that's the actual reason, I think everyone would've pulled out by now.

I guess that's possible, right? Wasn't there a point in the 90s when there were about 4 or 5 different configurations of engines being ran? Everything from Ford Cosworth V8s to Ferrari V12s, with several other variations in between?

It seems like the more tightly defined a formula is, it just becomes a contest of who can spend the most.

thats too bad, sucks to see another team go even if they were at the end of the pack. and its tough to make it cheaper i highly doubt money is a problem for honda. f1 is so expensive for the most part teams are expected to construct their own vehicles with some exceptions. this year with some radical changes hopefully it makes everyone a bit more competitive, or else the good drivers on crap teams will have to race nascar haha
