Hey guys,

I was just watching a show on the Travel Channel (actually my housemate told me to turn it on, he said I would like it) about custom shoes. As soon as I turned on the show, they showed the studio and workshop. I have never seen pictures of the Lobb studios, but as soon as I saw that I said "that has to be Lobb St. James". Sure enough, it was. What an amazing place. They showed some of the techniques used, including measuring one's foot, creating the wood last, and crafting the actual shoes. Incredible. My favorite part is when they showed the underground archive of lasts - over 16,000 pairs - many, many from famous people. Anyone else have the pleasure of catching this?

If you don't mind, could you give me the title of the show? I'd like to look for it on re-runs...

Thanks.

I can't remember - it had something to do with luxury services. They also had a segment about the largest wine cellar in the world in the same episode.

I've seen that show as well - that episode also featured a very high-end US jewelry store that was practically in the middle of the desert. If I remember correctly, what didn't appeal about the Lobb segment was the 'advertorial' feel about it - they kept heaping superlatives onto Lobb, as if there was nothing to compare with them... Could've been called 'Ultimate Luxuries'...

If you enjoyed the show, just wait until you have the opportunity to go to the store itself. It's worth the price of the airfare to watch the last-makers at work, to smell the leather and feel the ambiance of the place.
