Hello Members!

Recently purchased a few vintage Savile Row items, and wondered if anyone could shed some light on the makers. Been around the web, and can't seem to find much. Maybe members have some thoughts?

First: Bought a WONDERFULLY beautiful DB Chalk Stripe from Johns & Pegg. Fully canvased, absolutely fantastic. Anyone have any history on this now-defunct tailoring house?

Second: Got what is probably the most beautiful Harris Tweed I've ever seen/worn, with a James Dalgliesh label inside. Looks as though he was at 9 Savile Row, but not much online about him/the house. Anyone?

Thirdly: Bought a really LOVELY dinner coat from Pope & Bradley, located in London. Again, nothing online, really, about them. Help!

Thanks in advance for helping to uncover a bit of history about these absolutely lovely and cherished vintage pieces!!!!

DS.

Johns & Pegg is a grand old Savile Row name. The famous Scholte learnt his trade as a cutter there. The firm was renowned as a military tailor and, for many years, held the Duke of Edinburgh's royal warrant.

The firm was bought by Davies & Sons, and they still supply garments with the J&P label, if so desired.

Pope & Bradley have been part of Dege since at least the 1980's (?). Source: Directory at the end of The Savile Row Story by Richard Walker.
