Do all formal tuxedo pants have satin stripes down the outside seam?

does anyone else not like the stripe on the trousers- I think it looks silly, I prefer to wear plain trousers. But I usually don velvet for black tie so maybe I can get away with it because of the fabric mismatch

Whilst it seems to have become the custom these days to match the stripe on the trouser to the lapel (and I would not recommend wearing satin stripes with any other lapel) it is not an absolute requirement, provided there is an appropriate stripe of some sort. The picture below illustrates vintage black and white tie trousers; in neither case does the stripe match the lapel (in the black tie trousers' case, they do not match any possible lapel) but both are correct, and there are a number of other fancy braids which would do as well:

I think you need a stripe. Otherwise you're just wearing black trousers.

This. I always see these posts: I don't like stripes on the trouser. I don't like cummerbunds. I think anything but notch lapels look silly. I'd never wear patent leather shoes. I think bow ties are too stodgy. Why even keep up any pretense of black tie? It's a dying form anyway. Just wear a plain black suit and be done with it. NOTE: I'd never do that you understand, but I'm saying if you don't like the established forms of the tuxedo, stop trying to dilute it down to nothingness.
