1. Find a good shirtmaker. This is the easiest way to improve the way you dress. 2. Flannels, gabardines, and chinos. Two pair each in basic colors. Because, um, you need pants. 3. Gray suit or Navy suit. You need one of each, but one can wait until later due to budget. 4. Half a dozen ties. Use the guidance found at: http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/...be-part-1.html http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/...be-part-2.html Other than the shirtmaker, ebay and the B&S forum are your best bet to get good quality while staying below budget.

if you got bespoke shirts and suits by jantzen then you'd be able to buy a lot more but i'm not sure about the quality of his stuff. you can find AE shoes from $100-$300 a pair.

i'd get maybe 10 shirts from the jantzen guy, a navy blue suit and a gray one, a pair of black sheos and a pair of brown ones, i'd get at least 5 pocket squares and i don't know how many ties. maybe 5 pairs of socks too.
