Anybody know anything about a maker or shop called Sartoria Randazzo Catania? I picked up two jackets from them today, and they're beautiful. Practically dripping with handwork. Relatively light padding in the shoulders, but the sleevehead has a bit of roping. The jackets are too big for me (46-48R), so they'll be up in B&S before too long.

First person to tell me that Catania is a region in Sicily and Randazzo is a town there gets the I-could-have-Googled-that-for-myself award.

Actually, Catania is a town, a provincial capital. And I expect Randazzo to be a family name. It's probably a local tailor.

Where did you get it? I couldn't find anything on google, ebay, or in between my couch cushions... so it's probably what the poster above said, a small tailor.

Something about your comment reminds me of this article.

Wrong.

Actually both answers could be correct.
Catania is both a province and a city.
Randazzo is a town in the province of Catania in the region of Sicilia.

So "Randazzo" could be either a tailor's family name, in the city of Catania, or an un-named tailor (on the label) in the town of Randazzo.

In the Italian business directories there are several possibilities (perhaps on a label the OP may find one of these names):

NAME/TAILOR/CITY (Province)
Randazzo Uomo Sartoria; Concetta M. Curiale; Catania (CT)
Sartoria Longo Rosa; Rosa Longo; Randazzo (CT)
Sartoria Cavagnola Santino; Santino Cavagnola; Randazzo (CT)
La Sartoria Creazioni di Salva' Carolina Alessandra; Carolina Alessandra Salva'; Randazzo (CT)

My guess is that "Sartoria Randazzo", by Concetta Curiale, in Catania, is the most likely provenance.

I have been to Randazzo and based on my impression of the place (small, a little bit grim), I think it is much more likely that the label is the family name of the tailor located in Catania (which second biggest city in Sicilia.

Yes, I agree, as I wrote above.

Very unlikely, for grammatical reasons: 'Sartoria Randazzo' almost certainly means that the shop belongs to someone named Randazzo (trust me, I'm a native speaker).

Yes, almost certainly.
