Greetings fellow SFers,

I just received a pair of Santoni boots that I ordered from Farfetch. The price was $1,250 all inclusive. I couldn't find a better deal online, given that the authorities in my current domicile charge a 15% import tax on shoes and clothing.

Overall, I'm pleased with the construction and aesthetics. "Goodyear welted" is printed on the soles, although the stitching around the sole is apparently Norwegian ("Roccia Cervino"). I was worried about wacky Santoni sizing, but they fit well. My biggest disappointment is with regards to the sole, which doesn't look sufficiently grooved for winter boots. Hence, I was wondering, can a talented cobbler carve some grooves into the rubber sole, or is that asking for trouble?

I came to know Santoni a bit differently. I am a watch collector, and only recently have I begun taking an interests in high end footwear. IWC, the international watch company, partners with Santoni for their warchstraps. I was so impressed with the leather and the strap construction on my watch, that I decided to purchase a pair of Santoni shoes.

With each new pair, I become more impressed by the brand.

I now own 9 pairs with another one on the way. It’s a great, fashion-forward, yet understated brand.

You might want to look a bit broader: Santoni can be very good but is generally not great value (I have had over 10 of them but got rid of quite a few since).

Depends a bit on the style and price range you’re looking for. I haven’t bought any Santoni in years but it’s partly as I gravitated towards more basic colors for my formal shoes (and have since only bought Meccariello and Carmina) while for more casual I’ve bought Bonafe, sons of Henry. Tons of amazing shoe brands out there. Santoni is good but a bit overpriced IMO and tends to veer too often into just fancy patina’d shoes.
