hello, yes this is a correct description of the sanded sole.

this particular one is sanded black usually by Nordstrom /N Rack, they strip off the thin layer of wear and tear by former buyer and then 'relaquer'? (not knowing a better word for it) the bottom with a viscous black colored covering.

it is not really a bad thing, i have two shoes like this from nordstrom rack,
one a ferragamo studio ,which was a brand new shoe almost, but just gone through the process of refurbish in preparation for the rack. the black covering gave the sole a bit of extra toughness and extra longer lasting.
another shoe was from my judgment a shoe that was worn for about 2 weeks before returning, seen by the conditon of the upper, insole , and the black sanded sole (which you can kind of notice if it was done to a newer sole or more used sole, you can tell)

the only bad thing is , purchasing these shoes as brand new from ebay if you dont know about it that is all.

other dept stores other than nordstrom do a different kind of leather sole scrub, and with a punching of 2 holes for full retail return or other markings.

sometimes the guys putting the lacquer on aren't that careful and accidently get a little on the upper part of the shoe. i have two that were lacquered and they got a little bit where the welt meets the upper. in neither case is it noticeable and in one case i mistotok it for antiqueing. caveat emptor.

I found a pair exactly like this at the rack for $70. "Refurbished" but I could barely see any wear besides the sole scrubbing.

On a side note, How is the quality of normal Santoni? I know FAM are regarded well, but what about the normal stuff? The leather seems very soft, and they much lighter than my AEs. Comparable to AE or such? Worth $70?

It's very generous of the seller to offer returns: "If they don't fit, or you don't like them, return to me for full refund (shipping not included), no questions asked. Or you can resell them yourself, using my photos if you want."

And IMHO the normal Santonis are definitely worth $70 - I'd say they're worth 6 or 7 times that amount!

if it's the same one i'm thinking of then $70 is a good price. i looked at a pair in the regular nordstrom last week priced at $400. not sure what style you're looking at but if you like it then good price.
