Found these at the Rack today for $149. Not too familiar with the Santoni line, so I wasn't sure if I was paying too much. Though I'm more of a fan of open laced oxfords, these fit me rather nicely, so I think I'll keep them regardless. Any thoughts? Top view [IMG] Side view [IMG]

They look like they are the Griffin's that are goodyear welted and retail for aroun $585 so i would say that you got a pretty good deal, i don't know anything about the quality of Santonis though someone should be able to shed more light on that topic.

Looks like a great deal to me: Goodyear welted, channeled sole, classic design. My only criticism, if it is that, is the thicker (double?) sole.

    Those aren't cordovan are they?

I agree, the thick sole is not very "elegant" but I'll bet it's pretty durable.

Yes, the thick sole is a tad clunky. Not so much for elegant suit wear. But they could probably go with some heavier flannel trousers or something.

BTW the Rack also had a whole batch of Zegna suits marked down from 2295 to 595. They wear mostly 54s though.

Not sure if they are actual cordovan. They are "cordovan colored" and the leather is fairly thick and a bit stiff. (caveat: I really have no idea what real cordovan is supposed to feel like). I usually prefer chocolate brown or black shoes.

    Anyway, thanks for the responses.

should feel kind of waxy. Kind of slick. Not quite sure how to describe it. feel this leather and the leather of shoes you know are calf. You will feel the difference.

yes, they are waxy and a little slick. not as "soft" as my other calfskin shoes. so maybe they are cordovan. (that's horse, right?)

To my eye, they look like true shell cordovan. Others will know for sure.
