I recently purchase a set of Santoni FAM and they are IMHO beautiful. Pictures attached.
They have, however, very thin soles and I'm worried about them prematurely wearing out. Can/Should taps be applied to a thin soled moccasin-style shoe? or am I going to look like a knob?

Opinions appreciated.

Hello CBDB, first of all welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy it here.
I cannot help you much maybe someone else can chime in later but I have seen shoes /loafers like that made by Santoni that actually had the handwritten signature on the insole but with a reddish insole color.
These are not in the same line as the norvogese or Goodyear hand finished models priced at 900 USD or more, but nevertheless may incur some sort of hand-finishing that justified the insole signature.

you will not look like a knob for trying out something that can remedy your shoes, but those soles i have seen and felt and are like eggshells. i am not sure if they are really meant to be worn outdoors but mainly on carpeted surfaces i dont know, i would only relegate them to perhaps a sort of house slipper. i would think taps on toe would not cause any damage but the main damage would be from the middle part of the sole touching concrete all the time which the taps would not prevent. more like a topy covering would be more efficient in this case.
but anyways, i dont know too much about these shoes and i would not wear them out on hard concrete too often.

I would just use them for light duty and only on certain days to help preserve the sole. FAM are usually well constructed so you may get more mileage than you think. I tend to do thicker soles for the very concerns you have.

Thanks both.
That means I now have justification to purchase yet another pair of shoes.
