15 new Sam Hober ties for December. As always all our ties are bespoke so please allow roughly three weeks for your tie to be finished after you order. Let us know if you want an unlined seven-fold, a lined six-fold or standard three-fold. Here are a few: First, a classic with a brown background and a white tinged with peach pattern. the exact color of the pattern is subject to interpretation.

Next, something fun for holiday parties:

And something elegant:

Our college tie series will most likely begin in February, but we will shortly be taking advance orders.

Are 5 and 6 considered Macclesfields?

They definitely look similar. It's uncanny that these were posted today. I was going to email SamHober.com last night and request Macclesfield/Spitalsfield patterns. I never got around to it but I see that matters none! I'll be ordering shortly!

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your kind words.

Chris,

Please feel free to email me any time. I can't promise to make all designs that are suggested, but I am a good listener.

I tend to go through phases in my tie design interests. At the moment I am very interested in college repp tie designs and all the research that goes into getting the correct colors.

Working with classic Macclesfield designs sounds like a good project but one that will take some time.

Meanwhile we will have from time to time some elegant classic small geometric designs

Thanks David. I REALLY like geometric ties in muted colors. Ralph Lauren Purple Label makes some in this style and I have bought several.

I'm glad to know you're open to a Macclesfield project. I've seen several posters inquire about these as well.

Chris, I will make a post about Macclesfield ties, but meanwhile I thought that I would mention that my printed silks are almost all Macclesfields from or based on the David Evans archives. http://www.samhober.com/store/Englis...ies-c-324.html

David, not to be pedantic (but what else is the forum for?!), aren't Macclesfields by definition woven ties? I believe your printed ties would be considered 'neats', would they not? Please correct me if I'm wrong about that. I love that you're reviving old English designs.

Some of your revival prints remind me of those by the Italian firm Roda, which issued some gorgeous '30s revival designs a couple of seasons back. This one especially brings them to mind:

I have no idea where they sourced their silk, though.

Alan,

like you I have a love for history, pedantic in the sense of correct details is very good, as for rules.... I have little interest in them unless I am going to a formal wedding, or some event that is very formal in nature.

Now on to your question: I spoke this morning to a Macclesfield resident who is a silk textile designer with a love for history and who has 22 years experience designing Macclesfield tie designs. Currently using the old David Evans archives on a daily basis.

Macclesfields are simply designs that are from Macclesfield. They typically are repeating small geometric patterns with a navy blue or dark red background.

The silk prints that I have are printed in Macclesfield by the Adamley company using the old David Evans archives, interestingly my invoices say David Evans not Adamley.

On a side-note many of the archives for the small silkmakers that went out of business are in the the local silk museum and the museum is thinking about selling the archives to an Italian firm.

As you can imagine the local Macclesfield newspapers are talking about this and many residents are somewhat less than happy

Alan,

In a creative sense the question is which archive did they use or get their inspiration from?

The Italians love classic English designs, and as I mentioned in my previous post they are trying to obtain many of the old archives.

I received my tie a few days ago. The silk is especially nice, very thick with a beautiful weave. David was kind enough to add a thick liner to give the tie even more heft, so that it easily is one of my most substantial ties. Produces a hearty knot with a perfect dimple. A few pics:
