I am going to be in Los Angeles (actually Pasadena) on business next Wednesday and Thursday and will have Wednesday afternoon free. Are there any sales worth seeing right now?

Nothing noteworthy that *I* am aware of, but if you're in Pasadena you could always check out Carroll and Compnay on Lake Ave.

For a huge selection of restaurants, go to Old Town Pasadena!

Nothing really noteworthy sales-wise. Plus, Pasadena isn't known for great shopping (Carroll & Co. excepted) and you may not want to burn the three hours in afternoon traffic trekking out to the westside and back.

Wednesday evenings are tight for me schedule-wise, but PM me if you want to meet up. Are you coming to make a short "presentation" to three tenured people in black?

Ditto! And if you can, stay at the Westin Pasadena. Nice hotel.

Using BUR as your airport?

Not much shopping in Pasadena. If you're down for a LONG trek to Santa Monica and back, give Ian a ring. Lots of things to see at the worldsfinest: the prices and selection are hard to beat, and there are typically a lot of unlisted items there. If you're intent on staying in Pasadena, and open to non-shopping related activities, I'd recommend visiting the Huntington Library.

Wednesday afternoon, driving from Pasadena to Beverly Hills, shouldn't be too bad at all. If traffic's not too bad on the 405, it's short hop from there to Ian's place.

You didn't read the fine print. The moratorium applies only to articles that do not pass the "objective need" test.

If you have the whole day free I suppose you could go out to the Cabazon outlet and check out the Zegna and Allen Edmonds outlet stores. Otherwise, all the collection of nice stores are in Beverly Hills or Orange County (South Coast Plaza and Fashion Island).

I second the recommendation to have dinner at Shiros. Don't go without a reservation though. You'd probably have a long wait. For a nice breakfast, go over to Marston on Walnut Street over near Old Town.

good call on Marston....their corn flake batter waffles are amazing!

*is Shiro really that good? I've driven by it a 100000x and never been there. My cat is named Shiro, maybe that's a sign I should try it. We usually end up at Sushi Roku if we want sushi.

Yes. Shiro is that good. As lawyerdad said, it's not a sushi place but what's referred to nowadays as Pacific Rim or fusion. Your first time there you really should get the catfish, but get the small one unless you're a big eater. The larger catfish is probably a five or six pound fish. Also, don't miss the desserts.

Awesome thread, I am heading to pasadena in July and I am printing all these restaurants.

Is the Beverly Hills Polo store worth the visit ? I was thinking of Purple Label Suits maybe on sale.

Where is the Cabazon outlet ?

Anything in Santa Barbara ?

RL may be worth the visit, but the sales staff aren't very knowledgeable, and the design of the store is off-putting to me for browsing. The rest of Rodeo is worth it, though --- it's always hard for me to decide between watching people, the stores, or the cars. If you like your high-end jeans, there are lots of places to check out, too.

Cabazon is towards Palm Springs, perhaps 90 minutes from LA on the freeway, or about 100 miles. I haven't been there, but I'm sure someone can tell you more (Jan?).

Santa Barbara, where I live, is a sartorial desert. We have a decent premium jeans store here (Blue Beetle), but that's about it. Most tailored clothing is low-end, old-man stuff, with a limited selection of badly made fashion forward things at the Saks. However, on the way up to SB, you'll pass by the Camarillo outlets, about 45 minutes from downtown LA, and you may find some interesting stuff there.

If you come to SB, email or PM me. I'd be happy to recommend restaurants or answer questions about our town. We have some really amazing Mexican food, and some decent fusion food.
