any ideas as to the quality of the Saks Fifth Ave brand dress shoes? I saw a pair of brown brogue bluchers at an outlet today and they looked decent enough. they were marked down to $118. are their dress shoes made by any of the well known shoe makers out there like John Lobb, EG, AS, etc?

I don't know, that's why i'm asking the question. the $118 price tag was from an outlet store. so i'll repeat my question, is the Saks Fifth Ave house brand made by a notable shoe maker, or is it made in some ****** sweatshop in China.

Take a picture of the sole with the heel nail patter. Also, take note of the printed country of origin on the shoe itself. That would surely help.

Those shoes have been in the store for like 3 years now, at varying discounts off the red tag. I wish they would go away already.

I think they are made in Italy, but to no known (rather, meaningful) maker.

As it happens, I stopped by my local Saks Off 5th this evening since they are having another of their regular "big sales" and spent a while looking through their Saks brand shoes. They had many styles available.
My conclusion was that they appeared to be mediocre quality, not worth buying even though they were marked down to $125-145. They were stamped "Made in Italy" but the Italians produce some junk too.
On the bright side, Saks had awesome deals on Converse sneaks

A month ago I bought suede light brown colored Saks wingtips for about 40 dollars on clearance. They look nice, they feel comfortable but we'll see how long they last. The shoes have Made in Italy written on them. I inquired a Saks associates in the shoes dept. one time regarding who makes these shoes but he didn't know name of the company. He did say that the leather is used from Italy but they are made in Portugal, yet the shoes had Made in Italy sign on them.

I was wondering this yesterday as well. Saks SA had no idea who made them, but assured me they were made in Italy, as stated on the sole of the shoes. Baffling...

Dunno about Saks, but I hear that Barney's Co-op boots are made by Ferragamo. I bought mine on sale for $150 a while ago and it's still in great shape (minus the beating I've given it)

if they're the "made in portugal" ones, they're good quality, and a bargain at $118. A notch above AE in my opinion, and much nicer lasts.

AnGeLiCbOrIs was selling some of the "made in portugal" a couple of years ago, and i got a pair. They were my first proper shoes, and they're still my favourite last of all of my shoes. You find the "made in portugal" on the underside of the tongue. Leather is full grain, insole looks vege tanned. Only thing which makes them not quite up there with my other shoes is that the soles aren't closed channel. Still, really nice and they get a lot of wear.
