Couldn't find any threads on Saint James, was looking at some pieces of theirs online. How is the fit, construction, detail, etc?

Which pieces are you looking at? I've found the construciton and details to be great. I have a Matelot U that is absolutely my favorite piece of clothing. The fit, however, is tough to figure out. It took some experimentation for me.

I'm digging the Meridien II in Gris and Noir over at Union Made. Leaning towards the M. My chest is a 40, and unless it is crazy slim, I usually wear M.

I like the quality too. I'd say the fit is on the slim side but like standard European slim for an American, nothing too crazy. I've found them to be cut a little short sometimes, which I like but you may want to consider if you're tall.

    ^That sounds about right.

I've had the nautical sweater in several colours. (Matelot U and R) I like it a lot, but it could be little longer for me. (6'6" though)

The Officer sweater is supposed to be same as the Matelot just longer. That might work for you.

Armor Lux are a good alternative to Saint James if you don't find the fit quite slim enough.

Thanks MoK, that looks good as well. :) I've bookmarked it for later review.

Got the Meridien II from Unionmade. Fot is slim, but very TTS on me.

FWIW, I am a L in SNS, 3 in BoO. Generally buy M unless it is a real slim fit, then I size up to L.

I'd say all in all Saint James is pretty TTS.

Ahhh well, I mean I don't notice anything different on the neck, assuming that is what they mean. It's definietly thicker than a t-shirt for sure. Good layering piece for cold weather days, or easily stand alone for L.A. "winters"

Any difference in fit in the various naval sweaters (Matelot, Binic, etc)?

I could be wrong but I think Matelot and Binic are the same. At the minimum Matelot U and Matelot R must be the same just one has stripes. Officier is just like the Matelot but longer.

I love Saint James! I got my Meridian II's from here: https://www.brittanyboutique.com/

but it ships from France and took about 2 weeks to get to me but for about $30 cheaper I can't complain.

Hmm, this post at Archival Clothing leads me to believe that the Bicnic is a looser fit than the Matelot.

Anyone with experience with the Matelot want to weigh in on what size would be best for a 39 chest? The Archival size chart leads me to guess I'm good with an S/40/GPON, but advice from the knowledgeable is awesome.

I'm a 37 chest and have Matelot in Pon. I prefer to wear a button down shirt underneath and the fit is snug. I think you will be good with a GPON but if you want that super tight super future look go for the Pon.
