I'm looking to buy some new skincare products (cleanser/toner/moisturiser etc.) and was wondering if theres any websites that list ingredients that should be avoided. I've never really bothered with these things before but I've been thinking if your going to splash out on cosmetics you might aswell get good ones

Thanks guys

Just look for any that are animal tested, that way you know they're safe!

Most stuff isn't that bad, but I'd recommend you check out Lush if you're worried about that sort of thing. No preservatives, natural extracts. I haven't used much of it, but it smells super nice and have heard only good things from friends who use it frequently. Not cheap by normal standards, but not bad by styleforum standards. http://www.lushusa.com/shop/

yeah lush's good...it's costy but it is your very skin! you should be ready to make an effort for it...getting products for it shouldnt go like "what's the cheapest"...your skin shouldnt be a case for www.myhammer.com

i mean it's cool to get services easily booked online...but skin needs more patience than just a click

you can search a database for some products and ingredients: http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/
EWG is now partnered with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics safecosmetics.org

you can usually spot the questionable chemicals in the ingredient listing just by the name.

if you guys didn't know, Lush products are full of parabens and sulfates. Don't get me wrong...Lush products have lots of natural ingredients in them but they also use those harsh 'unwanted' ingredients too. I'd stay away from Lush if you wanted to try a skin care line devoid of harsh ingredients.

Most cosmetics (not just Lush) have parabens and sulfates. Have you read Renee Loux's book Easy Green Living? It's about the large # of chemicals in the products we use on a daily basis. This page from her websites has some detail http://www.reneeloux.com/natural_beauty/by_the_numbers_personal_care__/

he mentioned it because Lush is supposed to be a "natural" cosmetic brand.

Badger and Hugo Naturals are two brands that I've found to have some of the purest and safest ingredients in all of their products. mostly plant oils in the ingredients.

If you have a Whole Foods nearby, you should go check out their Whole Body section and look for products that meet their Premium Body Care standards. Those are usually the purest stuff that is easily available in the market. However, if you want to save money I would then go compare WF price to what swansonvitamins.com and vitacost.com is selling it...I usually buy from Swanson, and it's an average of 50% cheaper than what WF sells.

Some good products off the top of my head are Desert Essence Original Face Wash (http://www.desertessence.com/skin-care/thoroughly-clean-face-wash-original), you can usually find this on Amazon or Swanson for a lot cheaper...look for the 32oz container which literally can last you a whole year.

Aubrey Men's Stock line is also pretty good...I use their deodorant.

Kiss My Face recently reformulated their shaving cream so it doesn't have parabans.. it's reasonably price. I got a container on sale at WF for $5.00 and its lasted me about 6 months. It also works better than conventional shaving creams.

Badger's Sunscreen is great..it uses a physical sunscreen rather than a chemical one so you can get that "white" look, if you want minimize it, try SPF 15 (SPF 15 blocks 94% of UVA/UVB rays while SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVA/UVB). They use all natural/organic ingredients as well.

For a moisturizer, I just use pure Jojoba oil. It's technically not an oil but an ester. It has molecular structure to human sebum, thus it is absorbed really well by our skin and hair. It actually helps stop break outs, and keeps your skin even. I'm pretty lazy so I don't use it all the time, but whenever I have chapped lips or hands I put a little on and it fixes it quickly

Frankly, I would avoid places like Origins, Aveda, and Lush...they are way too overpriced for what they are.
