Appropriate name is appropriate.

Unfortunately, I live in one of those old apartment buildings that can't be heated uniformly during very cold winters, so indoors ≠ warm. Although I've always preferred having temperatures inside a bit cooler, and wearing a sweater, thermal, or wool work jacket, so these have always been warm and indoors clothing to me.

A 10 ply knitted onesie comes to mind.

I'd definitely buy this, throw on the balaclava, and do the full merino.

Hmmm. I like the idea of a set, too. Do you mean sold as one "product" online, or sold as separates?

Yes, I'd love to buy this as a set. For me, this would hit the sweet spot for a special project. It's the type of thing that you've never done, or at least to my knowledge, but that you might do and do well. It takes what you've been doing and pushes it just a little further to produce something unique yet also consistent with the history of your brand (for lack of a better word). If it's impractical to do as a set, then I'd also be happy to buy as separates, and separates might be better for items you carry in stock. But perhaps you could also make the set available as one product for an SF-exclusive pre-order or something similar?

All that said, the longer balmacaan also seems necessary, if only to meet the obvious demand. (And there's a very good chance I'd sell one of my balmacaans to give my closet space for a new one, so I'm also persuaded by this necessity.) But to me that would just be what you do every year + 5 inches, whereas a full 3-piece suit would be something new yet still comfortably within your repertoire.

Ah, makes sense. I live in a cold country but central heating is the norm around here.

I for one have been frantically returning on the website expecting the Flight Jacket from 2017-18 to make a comeback. It would be an instant purchase.

If you're talking about this beauty below, I agree!

Also, I read the idea of a longer Parka Major. I own one and I must say it wouldn't hurt to add some inches.

We have just made a new version of that.

It DOES NOT have the two-tone fabrication.

It DOES have a detachable collar (with a big internal pocket to store the collar).

It is otherwise much the same in design, but has a fly front, and the cuffs and back of the hem-band are elasticated, so more like a bomber jacket. Online within a week!

I am with you on this.

I am not sure the viability of the three-piece suit option, unless it was comprised solely of what we already have in the collection (the SB3, waistcoat, and some trousers). I mean "viability" in terms of design and development time.

The balmacaan — you are right. Given the demand here, it seems like we should bite the bullet and just update the design for everyone when we make it again after the summer!

One thing I'd like to know is, if, hypothetically, we were to do a group shirting order, would it be possible to get a wider range of collar sizes? I'm a size 14.5 collar and the one xs shirt I bought fits alright in the collar now, after soaking it in some hot water, blow-drying it, and praying, but I am wary of doing that with certain materials. I really like the design, construction, and fit of the xs otherwise, but the 15 inch collar just kinda sags.

That is interesting to know.

To justify, business-wise, making e.g. the XS shirt as it is now but with a tighter collar, we'd need quite a good number of committed orders. There is pattern work and sampling to be done, and then a certain number of units to reach before it can be made at the shirt factory (not a huge number, but at least ten).

That’s the word, yes! It just sounded so stupid and I thought that it couldn’t be real and I’d embarass myself. Long woollen underpants can’t be the sillier one here.

We did make some longjohns once, maybe 6-7 years ago, but they never went further than prototyping. The style and quality that we like couldn't be achieved, at least via the avenues we went down back then. They were above average, but not terribly different or exciting, and not even as lovely as those I buy every year from the highstreet. We have to play to our strengths when making exclusively in the British Isles, and not try to emulate something probably better made (sadly) overseas.

Knitted ones would be terrific, but perhaps only in theory, and I can't now unsee what I just saw when Googling "knitted longjohns". The knitwear maker with whom we work specialises more in textured knitwear rather than the superfine merino knitwear made elsewhere. And we are loyal so only really ever wish to work with one knitwear maker.

So far it seems like "long balmacaan" is the leader.

At least, going by consensus.

We are probably likely to make the balmacaan in a woollen cloth (tweed probably) after the summer, and after the discussion here over the past 48 hours, it would churlish not just to make it longer.

We could do a Styleforum version in another cloth, or with a different detail or two?

Or another coat? The only thing that springs to mind immediately is a fairly common request which is "the trench coat but with welt pockets rather than patch pockets" ...

Since we are making a version for style forum, can you post swatches of possible fabrics, then we all discuss what else to add? :O This is exciting :)

Paul, I have a custom shirt in lismore 34, color 6 that would be amazing to make up. It’s a great blue/grey glen check with a golden overcheck that I got as an overshirt. Truly great.

Or bring the great deep ivy corduroy back as a band collar shirt?

I remember it well!

It did look very nice. I credit the cutter and his pattern-matching (never easy with fine checks and especially with linen).

I think the cord in ivy will come along again after the summer. There's a good chance of it, anyway.

Could do, yes. We usually go for Donegal tweed for the balmacaan, but what about Harris Tweed? We have never used it before and I am sure there are a plethora of available options — either plains or herringbones.
