Moleskin is never far from my heart, so I'd say there's a fair chance of that, yes -- but not until after the summer.

I'm surprised we haven't done it before, to be honest, but I don't think we ever have. If we do, it'll probably be in a slightly lighter weight of moleskin than we used a few months back for the shirts with granddad collar (which we bulletproof, and wouldn't lend itself too well to a collar, I think).

I like a belt on any long coat, personally. Or at least some sort of horizontal split around the hip or waist. I suppose the large flaps on the pockets serve that purpose on the parka, but I'd rather wear it with a belt than without (not to mention the desolate nagging of ... absence, but that's probably just me).

I like just the same thing, "some horizontal split around the hip or waist". And yes, I think the large pockets play that role. I have some difficulties to tie it up with the effect I want. So, I let it hang and the buckle still shines
Right now I like wearing it without any belt and it is great I think.

- Just realised you did the same as last year, in linen tobacco, with a different collar ; this colour is so subtle and earthy, as you say. It smells intensely true, noble and manly. One of your greatest achievements to me -

I can't take any credit for the smell, Alex!

We do have a few other shirts up our sleeves — from the predictable (the shirt with granddad collar in desert cotton in ecru and light grey) and the less so (a popover shirt with short sleeves in suiting-grade linen, and a henley pullover in a blend of raw silk and linen).

Oh, and a polo shirt, too. But that's knitted.

Any of that take your fancy, Alex? The silk-linen cloth has a pleasing earthiness about it, albeit a more refined one than the linen pinpoint.

Well the future seems very promising at Boundary Street I will look attentively to those when they appear on the website. Just a question though : isn't the blend of silk and linen contradictory in terms of functions, as the linen is often used because it is very breathy, then in warm times, and the silk brings warmth ?

I find raw silk and linen to be much the same as a wearing experience. Both insulate pretty well when it's cool, and breathe pretty well when it's warm.

It's a very different material from a pure silk, and what perhaps springs to mind when you think of silk shirts. The cloth is like a knobbly, bobbly, fairly linen-looking affair, very thin and yet very strong. You wouldn't think there was any silk involved except for the fact there's an other-ness about it that isn't easy to pinpoint.

We'll be making the same "porridge" colour as last year (which we try not to do, but I liked this colour and it doesn't lend itself well to other knitwear styles nearly as much) and dark navy.

The style itself is as last year but with a few little tweaks.

Hopefully, they'll be complete this time next month. Next month at some point, anyway. There's also a cardigan and boatneck (both cotton) being made at the same time.

Tense and unpleasant times, I know.

I hope everyone here is keeping well and healthy and managing as well as can be.

We are busying ourselves with production of new things for spring and summer, which for manifold reasons has never seen so far away.

The slim trouser has returned, in the same cotton-linen hopsack used last month (which seems a long time ago) for the shopcoat and the field shirt. The two colours are tricky to tell apart, as the petrol turned out darker than expected, and the midnight lighter. A full size-range in both, however.

We have also just finished development of a new style: the henley shirt / top. It's a simple-looking pullover, to be made in linen and in silk-linen. Sort of an alternative to a shirt, I guess. It has a crewneck, a two-button placket, long sleeves, and enormous and preposterously shaped under-arm gussets, which permit not only a great space and range of movement in the arm, but also makes it easy to pull over the head. Big vents at the side, too, for the same reason.

*And* we're nearly finished making a popover shirt. It is looking a bit too confident and over-collared at present, which is causing me some concern, so we'll rein it in and then hopefully launch it in a month or so.
