So has the Harrington replaced the flight jacket? There is a similarity, especially since the last version of the latter had, iirc elasticated cuffs and hem, but I think there could be space for both if the flight jacket returned to the earlier iterations like this one.

I reeeeaally liked this style with the pleated hem and cuff and the large collar (and this particular material combo is amazing); and, now that I have a little more money to spend on clothing than I did in 2016/2017, I had been hoping to see it come back.

No ... not quite replaced.

The flight jacket had at least two jacket designs fighting within it: one the Harrington, which fully fleshed out represents the elasticated and stand collar side of the most recent flight jacket, and the other is a revamped flight jacket, which will have some of the parts of the older flight jacket, further developed and honed and augmented.

It will have the saddle shoulder and the pleats of the one above, more or less, and the same sort of collar.

But that's at least a year away as it is proving a bit of a slow burner.

Hi Paul, any sb jackets in the works for this year? Also, what linen items are coming up? I can’t get enough of the field shirt from last year. Thank you!

Yessir — we have the SB upcoming in linen hopsack and tropical worsted (lead grey and bran brown) in the next few weeks.

Also in linen will come shirts and popovers (with short sleeves).

Glad to hear the field shirt is working out well for you. We are making some more this year in cotton duck, which will look similar to the linen burlap from last year, but with a quite different feel and drape on the body.

Oooooh nice. I realize you may not be able (or wish) to divulge this yet, but what will the honing/augmenting of the flight jacket look like, given its many similarities to the older model?

It will have the same saddle shoulder as the previous versions, a wide placket across the front for an asymmetric button fastening, and most likely horizontal hip and warmer pockets (as the Harrington) both together. And then pleats heading into the hem of both the sleeves and the body, and a collar and collar latch much like the one in the photograph above.

All of which makes it sound rather Frankenstein-like!

It will appear both simple and cohesive, rest assured.

Oh no, I missed out on the Harrington. If one comes into stock in XL, could you please let me know? Darn I wish I had seen it sooner.

I've been eyeing the SB jacket for a few years now but I've been too worried about the sizing to order one. Is there anything else that fits about the same that you could compare it to?

Hello Paul, I've come across an old SEH Kelly rain jacket. I believe it's made from ventile. The garment instructions say "Do not wash" and "Dry clean only" but I was considering washing it with Nikwax Tech Wash to restore its waterproofing. Is this a terrible idea? Many thanks!

Butting in here, but as far as I know Ventile was originally designed to be as breathable as possible while still retaining some water resistance. That means no DWR, though I believe the modern stuff is made with some kind of coating.

That's what I thought as well. But then I came across this from the Ventile website:

Restoring Water Repellency

Through hard wear and tear, Ventile® fabric may eventually require a reproof. We advise that you follow the specific instructions on the waterproofing products we’ve suggested below:

  1. Granger Extreme Waterproofing for Naturals
  2. Nikwax Tech Wash or pure soap (ensure there is no residue of detergent in your washing machine)
  3. Nikwax Cotton Proof
