Maybe a totally bonkers idea, but would a BLACK tweed for this coat work do you think? Maybe with light brown secondary colors, or even just simply white flecks.

Just a weird thought.

Sure it would, yes — that would be great.

However, for the shades and flecks of yarn that go into each Donegal tweed, each mill has its own set of recipes, and I must admit I've never a combination quite like you describe.

Something like https://www.sehkelly.com/watch-cap-in-donegal-merino-lambswool-in-rook/, do you mean?

That example in a coat would be a thumbs up from me too!

And it's certainly not a million miles away from my own preferences!

Not a recipe of yarns that I have yet encountered, however.

On a related note, we have been exploring different styles of tweed from the Scottish Borders — similar weights and feels to the heavy Donegal tweed we use for the balmacaan and Ulster, but all with its very own distinctive Scottish Border tweed appearance. Hopefully one or two of them will make themselves known next year for one or two of the heavier coats.

If anyone is interested, I just posted a size Large Olive Corduroy work jacket and a Charcoal 6-ply turtleneck, size medium, to Grailed. Both pieces from several seasons ago.
