I had hoped today to share some photographs of the trucker jacket.

(It has been in development for a couple of years -- non-continuously thankfully -- and will hopefully see light of day next month or the one after.)

But the sun was too shiny and precluded good photographs.

Instead, the day was spent mostly indoors working on new collars for our shirt. We have made a semi-cutaway collar, and a button-down collar with hidden buttons (and downs). Plus the Kelly collar has been reshaped, and likewise the standard collar (in fact, previously they were the same collar, just with or without a collar-tab; now they're different from one another).

And we'll be cutting new shirts next month, hopefully, in cord and moleskin. Then, the month after that, we'll have a new super-fine merino shirting to cut. We used this cloth a few years ago for some of the best shirts, to my mind, we've yet made, and we've been working on new colours with the mill in Somerset which, hopefully, will combine nicely with the above-mentioned collars.

Wonderful. I’d love a note for the new cord and moleskine shirts if it is not too much trouble :)

Cheers, Thibault.

Part of the job today also was taking what works on the collars on our coats -- particularly that round, convex way that the collars sit at the front -- and applying them to the shirt. The way coat and shirt collars are shaped is quite different, but I found a few things which can be transferred across, and will hopefully pay dividends later in the year -- especially when we make shirts in thicker materials.

Wondering if anyone has an interest in the black moleskin grandad shirt in XL from last fall. Really amazing shirt, amazing fabric, and the fit isn't 100% so I haven't been wearing it as much as i'd hoped (only worn twice).

Thought i'd ask here before popping it on the bay. Any interest let me know.

Super excited. Been looking forward to the trucker since it’s been announced.

And yet, the last few days, I have wanted to see the bad pictures.

I'll post some in a day or two.

But remember, Patrick! We're talking wilfully obscure development photographs here. That's just my way!

The real thing shouldn't be more than a month away, anyway. That's my hope. We're using the same cotton Bedford cord as the proper trouser (https://www.sehkelly.com/proper-trouser-in-bedford-cord-in-marine-blue/) earlier in the year, so it'll have that nice flat, matte quality, and be a bit different to the standard corduroy that's often used for jackets of this style.

The "trucker" name still seems a little off to me, though — not very British-sounding! — but "lorry driver jacket" is even worse.

Transport? or even just Driver?

Thanks for the suggestions!

But right now at least I favour sticking to the classic menswear nomenclature, even though this time it rubs against me somewhat. The other option I had in mind was "jeans jacket" or "jean jacket", but that creates the expectation that it'll be made from denim, which is sadly unlikely.

It’s interesting how the name is very much not S.E.H. Kelly style, but it’s easy to imagine the jacket will be done perfectly in S.E.H Kelly style.

The style of jacket isn't really one I'd wear myself, but we had quite a few good ideas for a short, casual jacket which converged into the shape of a trucker. It's one of those ones for which lots of ideas accummulated over quite a long period of time, until they coalesced into what I hope is a watertight design.

And again — I probably wouldn't wear one normally, but we're committed to covering all classic, casual menswear bases (and it'd be tretcherous of me not to wear this one).

It will be one of our shortest jackets, though, Patrick!

I’m not afraid of a short trucker, that’s part of the style. My current favorite is a shearling version, so it would be nice to have a Bedford cord version.
