Today I received a long awaited package from G. Cleverley containing, what I consider to be, the crowning piece of my 1786 Russian Leather collection.... a custom pair of their WK Boots......

Mine are cleverley Adelaide's made by George Glasgow. I would consider the fit to be good rather than great, but I love the look of the Russian leather.

any updates on how these are aging? quite pretty.

They are aging fine, but as far as bespoke shoes go, I would say that my cleverley are several clicks below other makers. There are several aspects of the shoes that strike me as careless and sloppy. No doubt they are cheaper than other makers, but I wouldn't use cleverley again. I'm glad I have these though as l so love the look of the reindeer.

G&G has access to Russian reindeer leather now if you like their bespoke work.

Don't think the French or the Japanese guys have access to reindeers. But the French guys may have frog leather and Japanese guys whale leather...

Fantastic MoosicPA - I appreciate the post and those boots.

I missed an opportunity to purchase a 1786 Russian leather belt - would anyone know if that is possible online?

Thank you Resistant, asuitablewardrobe.net has the Cleverley belts and some other items available online. If they don't have your size in stock, you can always contact Cleverley and they will take care of you.

Awesome boots. Great packaging presentation by Cleverley. Much better than G&G or both John Lobbs.

Thanks Chogall, I was surprised by the packaging too. I had commissioned a pair of Russian leather loafers from them last year, and they arrived in their usual red box. This box is very nice... And even more surprising overnight shipping from London to the U.S..

The oldest pair of Russian leather shoes I have are now 6 years old, and they have aged nicely. The secret is to not let the leather dry out. I treat mine with Saphir's leather balm at least 2x a year.

thank you agjiffy for the feedback. which other bespoke makers do you favor/prefer?

which aspects of the shoes struck you as careless and sloppy?

if you don't mind sharing, what was the cost, as I thought cleverley was on par cost-wise with other makers.

I do love the captoe adelaide look and the look of the reindeer. thank you for sharing.
