Unexpectedly, my wife has offered to buy me a dress watch. I have two dive watches, a Breitling and an Omega Planet Ocean. I also have a vintage Omega seasmaster on leather strap for a dress watch.

I am kind of leaning toward the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic. First choice would be an Omega Aqua Terra, but don't want to push my luck with the spouse.

Time is of the essence here. Help!

+1 on Longines.
I know very little about watches but I'm regularly impressed with the Longines' models.

Nomos Tangente (will be a squeak, but you might find one just under $1500) or Stowa Antea.

The most important advice is to not rush out and buy a watch under some deadline. Your vintage Omega sounds like a nice watch which works with a suit and tie. Spend some time researching your options and try on as many as you can -- they are very different on the wrist compared to photos. Rushed purchases (watches, cars, houses, mail order brides, etc.) stand a higher chance of creating buyer's remorse than long-term satisfaction.

Best of luck,
Twotone

PS: Check out www.timezone.com and www.pmwf.com for specific watch recommendations and great information.

I'm looking with a very similar criteria and so far I'm leaning towards the stowa antea 390. Although I am trying to keep my budget closer to 1000

agreed with Twotone, don't rush out to buy a dress watch, save money and buy a Patek Philippe/Vacheron Constantin/Audemars Piguet, I guarantee you won't regret

Can probably find a great LNIB dress watch on timezone for around 1500. There are so many choices though. The Aqua Terra is a great choice.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
