Rumpled shoulders in RLBL suit?

Gentlemen:

In November I purchased two Ralph Lauren Black Label suits. They fit like gloves. They look fantastic. I love them. HOWEVER, the shoulders of one of the jackets have this curious bumpy/rumpled effect that 3 pressings have not cured. No other suit jacket I've ever had does this, nor does the 2nd RLBL suit I have do this. The tailor has insisted that it is just a pressing issue and after pressing it each time, it looked better, but not great, and the fix lasted for only about half a day.

What could be wrong? It feels almost like there is not enough padding in the shoulder or canvas in that part of the jacket--whichever it should be--as compared with the other RLBL suit I've got. Or maybe it's just sewn in incorrectly? I'm no tailor. What should I do? Bring it back and demand someone open it up and fix it or demand a new jacket? It's not like those suits are cheap, even at the private sale.

Pictures of each shoulder. They don't really do it justice, but perhaps you can see what I mean. Please ignore ugly ass bathroom:

I noticed that in one of my RLBL suits, but I figured out that my shirt was doing something weird there near the shoulder seam since the suit jacket is pretty tight fitting. See if that is happening to yours.

Nice suit btw.

I believe this is the issue. Your tailor should be able to put in some light padding to smooth it out.

Checked the shirt--no strange business up in the shoulder. Jacket fits pretty comfortably, anyhow.

I hope it is just a padding issue, as you say. That should be an easy fix, then?

IME, it's a very hard thing to fix. That rumpling could be due to shirts bulging underneath the shoulders, or shifting in shoulder pads, or when your tailor "fixed" the back collar roll incompletely. Take it back to your tailor to fix it. My guess is the shoulder pads were not set in properly (RLBL's shoulder pads are taped onto the shoulders from inside, AFAIK).

Maybe Jefferyd or other expert tailors could provide some real insights.

We can all agree, though, that shoulders should not look like that, correct? So when they insist it's supposed to look like that and that that is smooth, I can disagree confidently? What a pain!

it does look weird, unfortunately. i think i have the same suit as you (is it a navy pinstripe?) and the shoulders are perfect.

This happened to my Hickey Freeman Tux. It's really obnoxious, and I'm not sure how to fix it, or if it's even worth it.

The shoulder padding needs fixing, is all.

This is a difficult problem to solve and could be caused by several things. The shoulder needs to be opened and adjusted/shifted and remade. Pressing and or adjusting the pads has little to no effect on this problem. It has to be seen in person to determine the cause.
Usually the shoulder needs to be squared up a bit and more fullness on the back part. Sometimes you need to straighten the front shoulder. A good tailor can fix it.

Thanks folks. I will bring it in to have it checked out. Hopefully Ralph's tailors will do it with no fuss. Otherwise I'll have to bring it somewhere else and pay for it to be fixed.

Work has been busy and I have not had a chance to bring the suit over! They close at 6 and I haven't been able to get out of the office before 6:30 in quite some time...perhaps this week. Will update soon.
