Rule for brown + black?

WHat is the *rule* - can one wear a brown-based Harris tweed with black gloves, black scarf and black cap-toes?

While I prefer the look of brown tweeds with merlot *antiquated* (from normal wear, not artificial) brogues, I don't feel very good about adding a black scarf and black golves to this ensamble - so the thought about black shoes.

Color-wise I think the tweed looks OK w/ olive pants, black shoes, black gloves, and a black scarf - but I wonder if I'd be breaking some rules?

btw: I am not aware of any issue wearing a camel top coat in combination with black gloves, shoes + scarf, right?

Not sure how to take this so I'll give a *serious* answer:
No, I am no fan of Harp (or mixing beers). I like my Guinness on its own. However,when I am drinking it's normal for me to drink 5 or so different things for the night - e.g. vodka, scotch, maybe a couple of different cocktails, tequila, and yes, Guinnes. On a cold night a cognac w/ tea and *home-made* brandy (maybe heated w/ sugar), or hot red wine with honey and black pepper, etc. So in this sense - I am mixing drinks

Why do you need a rule?
Just wear what you think looks good and what you feel comfortable with. For the record I've never read or heard of any rules prohibiting brown with black.
I wear brown brouges with black jeans quite often
That said, I NEVER EVER wear black shoes with brown trousers, and that is not due to any rule it is simply something I don't think looks good.

so if you wear a black wool coat, and carry a brown leather messenger bag, you wouldn't wear black leather gloves? would you wear brown leather gloves (with black coat) or would you go for a black cashmere glove or something of that sort?

I do appreciate the ideas to the effect of "wear if you like" - I am a proponent of this approach myself, i.e. - I try not to wear things if I don't like them

But I would really like to know what's sartorially accepted / tradition / standard for the moment (yes, it may change in the future) for my situation / example - even if I still choose to ignore it in my personal style because of personal preferences.

Not mixing lethers is not set in stone, obviously - as the example with the bag + gloves above shows. Also - if I wear red / burgundy shoes, I surely won't wear the same color gloves. I have also seen great leather jackets with different leather color pieces, as well as bags with two or more colors of leather. Not to mention shoes

I think it's okay to mix black and brown with your clothes but if you're wearing black clothes, don't wear brown shoes or belts, and vice versa. However, I generally just avoid black and brown because I don't like them together with my clothes.

I was told of such a rule at Harley Davidson dealer one time, I kid you not.

I thought motorcyclists (ie weekend warrior bikers) were all about individuality.

Anyways, rules are meant to be broken imho.
