Rugby University Chino for semi-formal...

My girlfriend's sorority is holding a (very semi) formal dance and I decided to finally use an old $50 gift certificate to the new Rugby online store (live in NC, and they closed the Chapel Hill location before I could stop by.) I am thinking of purchasing either the stone wash or khaki colored University Chino for the dance. Does anyone know how the fitting is? Do they fit like RL pants? How slim are they?

Also, please give some opinions on my outfit: along with the pants, I'll wear an autumn-colored burgundy and green striped knit tie, a tie clip, and my new Blucher Blocs. What color shirt should I wear? Should I go with a blazer, vest, or cardigan? I realize I may end up looking more like an Oxford wannabee than someone ready for a party, but her college is full of southern preppy, croakie and sperry wearing frats so I figured I could add more to the standard look.

Thanks for any advice.

Your girlfriend can probably tell you more of what might be expected, but I would wear something more formal to a semi-formal than chinos. Assuming you're a student yourself, you probably don't have many really good reasons to dress up. Why not take this one?

None of those I feel like would be appropriate at any semi-formal I would attend. I would suggest a nice, slim-fitting suit and a good slim party tie (unless of course, you're not slim, in which case, wear what fits properly.) Chinos and cardigans do not fit my idea of a semi-formal. A nice blazer would probably be best. These: http://www.rugby.com/shop/item.aspx?...goryId=3138682 (which I'm assuming is what you're look at) do not fit in my definition of a semi-formal. They would probably go better with a cardigan and the aforementioned southern preppy sperry wearing guys you were describing.

I can look into getting a slim suit or something more formal from my closet. My gf did say that the norm was khakis, but overdressed is better than under I suppose. Thanks.

But I still like the Rugby chinos for casual use. Can anyone make a comment on them?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
