Rubber soles on shoes-opinion

Well, this being my first post i hope that I'm not asking a question that's already been answered. I recently bought a pair of leather soled shoes and living in a wet climate it's impractical, so i want to get rubber half soles. I wanted to know if the cobbler just puts the new sole over the leather or cuts it off to actually put on the new sole. Any explanation will be appreciated, thanks.

They glue it onto the leather sole, sometimes they carve off a bit of the leather sole before putting on the new topy. But you wont lose your leather soles completely
