I got my first few Cappelli and Drakes ties. Out of curiosity, which do you like better and why? Let's keep this thread just for their RTW products.

Cappelli's standard tie is a 3.5 width whereas Drake's is thinner. Anyways, I haven't handled the exact same product from both i.e. grenadine, foulard, etc.. I've always had different from each.

What is your opinion?

They are my two favorite tie manufacturers (sam hober too).

If I am am wearing or want a more structured or English style then Drakes. For more Italian, loose, relaxed Cappelli. They never really directly compete for attention in my closet. Repps, and woven patterns and maybe one or two heavyweight silk prinks are Drakes. Italian Foulard and grenadines are Cappelli.

Drake's seems to have a wider range of selections. Some can be somewhat heavy and stiff, some light and soft. Then, of course, there are all the (tasteful) novelties they have, such as slubby raw silk and boucle. Cappelli, on the other hand, seems to have a somewhat narrower selection - mostly silk Macclesfields, repps, and cashmeres, usually done with a soft, light construction and exhibiting a bit more evident hand stitching.

I like Drake's for the risks they take, but Cappelli for the construction. If were to compare more than that, I think it would depend on what kind of Drake's we're talking about. For the moment, I suppose, I favor Cappelli, but perhaps because I have something like fifty Drake's and only four Cappellis. I also want more Macclesfields.

Also, if we're talking about RTW, I have to say - Cappelli edges out for having more 8cm to 9cm ties, whereas Drake's often has too many 7cms.

Still, I love both companies. Just bought another Drake's last weekend. :satisfied:

Used to love Drake's, but now they offer nothing but those absurdly slim 7cm ties. I sometimes buy the A&S ties (rebranded Drake's in the more standard 9cm width).

No experience with RTW Cappelli ties. The bespoke are, needless to say, awesome.
