I don't know about you, but I wear a coat and tie to dinner in my home. I've been at home all day (I work from home ... when I work) ... and yes, I'm wearing a coat and tie. I grew up with parents that required a coat and tie at dinner ... as well as when using the more formal rooms (living rooms, library, music room, dining room, etc.) of the house. Moreover, I went to schools that required it for classes, dinner, and various events.
RSS, I am interested in learning more about your upbringing and the social etiquette you were raised with. Can you list some of the less obvious customs and norms you were expected to observe? These can be as trivial as waiting for the host to begin eating before you eat yourself, or as major as marriage expectations. Or, perhaps you can list some of the more flagrant violations of manners, gestures, mores that you observe average people commonly violating, mainly b/c they aren't even aware of the "rule"? I think you get the gist of what I am trying to glean from you... Thanks.
