it says that the actual waist is 38.5 inches.

i don't know how they measure it, but rrl sizing is a pain ********** to figure out.

I think you'll be fine. Very often, jeans sizing accounts for at least an extra inch, so if you're wearing 36/37, many of your jeans may already be 38"+/- anyway.

It's going to fit a tad loose but the upside is you won't have to worry about too much stretching.

Mine were quite snug when I got them and 6 months later are about an inch+ loose. Still, they're super comfortable without being baggy.
