Does anyone know anything about Rolexs? I know they aren't considered the best taste here, but I've been considering buying one as a tangible investment. (better to look at then 401k statement)

People are cash strapped and getting rid of luxury watches left and right. I wouldn't consider a Tag, Movado, etc. no matter what the price as they have no resale value.

I am looking at a 2003 Rolex Thunderbird 16264 for $1400 cash.

Would this be a sound investment? Like I said, I know nothing of the Rolex line.

Seems like a very nice price. Be sure to check authenticity, and ask for papers/box.

+1. Also, don't lose it in your chick. You might scratch it and that would be sad.

This is very beautiful price. Like other folks said. There are maa......ny knock-offs out there. some knock-offs looks as same as real one.
Before you pay, go get a watch-maker to take a look at.
Usually check the movement (the red wheel) will do the job.
Make sure the SN on the movement match the one on the case. I had bought one with a switched movement before (sad!).
Buying a used watch is always not a easy job.

- nothing wrong with Rolex, every one should have had one in their life.. They are rock solid & great currency when times are tough.

+1 on authenticity check... have it brought to a Rolex service center if there's one in your area... you can never be too sure, even the insides are cannibalized.
