Rod Lavers vs. Jack Purcells

I currently own a pair of Adidas Rod Laver shoes, as my everyday tennis shoe to wear to class, bars, shopping, etc. They are the white ones with green trim. It is time to get a new pair of shoes, as the paint on the rubber above the sole is peeling off, and it is starting to look a bit crappy. I was debating getting a pair of Converse Jack Purcells, or all star premieres. (leaning towards the purcells). How do these compare to Rod Laver in terms of comfort, durability, style, etc. I like the look, but can't decide whether to get leather or canvas (but living in northern illinois, leather makes more sense), or the best color scheme, so advice about that would be welcome as well.

You should realize the construction to the shoe are completely different, and thus the feel and support will differ. I love my Converses yet the canvas life will deteriorate much faster and the support is strictly limited to casual affairs such as literally just walking, clubbing, etc.. I also believe canvas is perhaps the more ideal material for the dreaded summers but with fall coming up, perhaps another alternative is leather Chuck Ts.

I also love Adidas and the Rods are just classic, especially in that green.

Bottom line - both are fairly cheap so just buy both of them.

When I was looking at the Purcells I liked the perfed white leather version. I never ended up getting a pair, though, because I decided I didn't really dig the toe cap thing.

I was totally bumming when JCrew started selling Jack Purcells. Their whole catalog is replete with them.
