It's the Friday before a holiday. I've got a half day. Thought I'd throw on some annoying socks to make the same people who are annoyed that I wear a tie cringe. It has worked. I've been told "You don't match" and "only you would wear that color of socks."
i live for comments such as these. well done!
Nice shoes. I love the nap on those. What is the purpose of the extra piece of denim on the back of the hem? I've never seen that before.
Nice combo indeed. Who makes these jeans?

What is the purpose of the extra piece of denim on the back of the hem? I've never seen that before.

They are Levis LVC 1947 501XX, worn from deadstock (raw) that are about 5 years old. The back, rear cuff wore away and frayed. I took them into the Levis custom shop and tailor in San Francisco. The guys there will do a wide range of customizing and repairs ranging from wild, 60's inspired hippy embelishments and patches to vintage workwear hand sewn repairs (a la Free & Easy) to whatever you want. On this particular pair I asked for a patch and thread to match the wash on these jeans. They also did a small patch on the button fly.

I had them work on two other pairs at the same time. You can see them on this thread http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...vis+lvc+thread

When I picked them up, I dropped off a fourth pair of beat, 1955 501XX. They have paint, tears, fading...tons of character. They will be doing about five hand sewn patches using cotton indigo colored thread, old selvedge denim and chambray, They will also do some hand sewn darning.

I like the work wear aesthetic but I don't want all of my jeans to look like that. I want to try a few repairs that don't look like everyone else.

Why do you drive in your EGs? Or, to put it another way, am I the only one here anal enough to switch in and out of driving shoes? Granted, my commute is pretty long and stop-and-go. It would wreck the hell out of nice dress shoes.

My shoes all get well worn. I wear driving shoes when taking long roadtrips--more for comfort than anything else.

I wear all of my shoes on a daily basis and the only thing I really protect my EGs from is rain (especially the suede ones). I actually found myself cleaning out my storage locker in these Falkirks. Not ideal but I was careful and in the end, they are just shoes.

I did spend my memorial afternoon polishing some 12 pairs of shoes as I have been traveling so much that my shoe care routine fell behind.
