    Cool!

Check out Septieme Larguer while you are there - or if you really want to get a shoe woodie seek out Pierre Corthay's shop.

I am going to have to try a pair from them. I have seen their stuff but have only purchased socks and pocket squares. Thanks!

The transparent dye you mention is called analine dye. It allows the grain of the leather to show through rather than a "paint-job", which covers nuances of the grain. Also, the fading in the creases is because G&G gets their hides dyed a solid color that is usually pretty flat and boring and applies what is called a "crust" finish, which is color deposited with waxes and creams. When the shoe is flexed these waxes and creams separate to show the lighter analine dye.

I must be one of the few here that truly appreciate the effect. I love shoes that looked worn and cared for--its like a bike someone has spent a lot of time riding. (Apologies for waxing - pun intended - poetic.)

I agree with you. You can tell a pair of beat up cared for shoes over just a beat up pair. The former has charm, the latter looks slovenly.

I certainly appreciate a well patinated and cared for pair of shoes. You have many good examples. I just hate the phase they can through when new but worn in which the creases can just look a bit tatty, to me anyway.
