I find that G&G (and many other better English shoe makers) use a leather that is fairly transparently dyed. This makes for a lovely and deep rich finish. It is also a fairly 'mobile' dye that will quickly move out of the creases during the first few wearings. If you like this effect - then great - nothing special required. If, however, you are like me and you find those very light creases to be distracting. I suggest the following:

After each wearing brush fairly vigorously and follow with an application of a cream polish in a color similar to the shoes existing color. Brush buff.

After 3 - 4 wearings or when they start to look a bit opaque apply Reno, Brush Buff, and apply cream polish followed by a coat of wax.

Repeat above with random colors of cream polish - I've used red, blue and green on my Antique Oak pair. I use just use red and blue on my vintage Rioja pair. I've used mostly red and some blue on my Vintage Cherry Pair.

This will build up a strong, well patinated, somewhat flexible, and durable base finish to which you can then add wax polish every month or so.

I'm sure others have their own methods - but that's what I've found to work well for me.

    ENJOY!

Well, of course you don't have to go to all the trouble I do. For me it's as much a hobby as it is a chore.

    The basics are really simple.

Cream polish (I use plain old Meltonian - those who use Saphir say it has a lot more pigment color in it - so I would bear that mind if I went that route.)

Saphir Renovateur (it is really good stuff - not essential in that you can accomplish good results without it. But it is really easy and provides great results)

Wax polish (I use Kiwi or Saphir - no big deal difference for me which).

It's really just a matter of 5 minutes of time after every wearing while you build up a great base finish. After that is done you can go to once a month or so.
