Mac - I didn't think Alden would do that. Is there someone special that you deal with or is it your legendary status that gets you special treatment :)? I have the Scotchgrain wingtip contest boots that come with the command sole that I like very much but I think I'd like it better with a double leather sole. Thanks for your help.

This can be easily and more cheaply done by a reputable cobbler. B. Nelson -- friend of the forums -- specializes in high-end shoe work and can resole your Aldens to a double leather sole easily. The service starts at $90, I believe, whereas Alden would charge around $130-150. (That $90 also includes all kinds of recrafting work, which I'm sure you could forego since your shoes are presumably new.)

When the time comes, B. Nelson will also do all the reconditioning work that Alden would have done, and do it faster and cheaper ($120 I believe). You can also have them do custom work that Alden won't reliably do, like not re-dye your shoes (changes the patina/aging), or change the edgetrim if you want, or use a Dainite sole, etc.

Nick V. is a forum member and staff at B. Nelson. I'd shoot him a PM for details. They also have a website with info.

Thanks. I am well aware of B. Nelson and their services and Nick's SF membership. I was interested in the Alden angle as I had heard that they do not change their original make-ups,i.e., if the original sole is commando they'll restore it but won't change it. Mac's experience indicates otherwise.

Ah I see. Mac represents like 70% of Alden's shell sales. I assume any treatment he receives is preferential.

    ID on these?

Also where your socks at brosef?

Thanks. But no, actually Charles Tyrwhitt. I think those are made by Barker.
