I'm curious what you guys prefer when it comes to dressing gowns and robes, aside from bath robes/terrycloth. I think they're great, perfect for lounging around the house (well, apartment) in the evening and on the weekend.

I wear Champion basketball shorts and a t-shirt. I've never understood robes/dressing gowns; they're a bit too upper-crust for me.

Nike shorts and a light t-shirt or a tank top. Robes are too bourgeoisie for a peasant like me.

Thick terry-cloth bathrobe, and a thinner cotton waffle-weave. Both easily washed.

I had my grandfather's ca. 1940 black silk full-length dressing-gown; it had huge micro-quilted shawl lapels and cuffs, and was my pride and joy for years. The cuffs eventually became frayed, and were converted to plain cuffs, and the regular dry-cleaning was a hassle. I still miss it.

(It seems it was a honeymoon gift from my grandmother, and never used. Too lounge-lizardy for gramps.)

Boo. I wear my orange Champion shorts from high school basketball too (those things are indestructable), but why limit oneself. I've got a cotton seersucker robe for spring/summer and a lambswool robe with piping for fall/winter. Silk strikes me as generally a little impractical, but I'd like a cashmere robe. Price, however, has so far deterred me.

My cotton/terry robe is my staple lounge wear at night. Not so much in the summer though. If it's warm, I'll wear my lightweight cotton robe (i.e. yukata).

I have two cotton dressing gowns that I hardly ever wear. They somehow seem unnecessary to put over clothes or pajamas, and if I am naked I prefer to get dressed. If we have houseguests and I need to go through the house quickly after a shower, they are handy though.

There's no feeling quite like a cashmere robe over silk pajamas (think cashmere sweater over silk shirt, but all over).

That said, I mostly wear cotton or linen.

I have a very thick cashmere Sulka robe which is highly impractical but very comfortable. Silk pajamas, I don't own.

I have an amazing bathrobe which my girlfriend brought from a place called Tamborine Mountain Spa Essentials at a market in Mount Tamborine in Queensland, Australia. It is amazingly soft and warm - perfect for winter. It came with matching slippers that are like walking on clouds...fantastic after being on your feet all day. you can probably buy them over the web, well worth the investment

Cotton flannel polo bathrobe for me. Lighter weight than terry cloth and great for lounging.

+1, though wool or cashmere might be an option when I move to a cooler climate.

I like wool or silk robes in the winter. Terrycloth is good for getting out of the pool only.
And cashmere is, well, cashmere....
