Charlie Watts wins it going away. Also, he's very cool and above the fray!

    My thoughts exactly!

Time and range need to be considered. Robert Palmer had the polished look for over 20 years, but he hardly varied it. Whether one dresses himself - as David Bowie seems to - also counts for something. That is a very flattering picture of Charlie Watts, but he doesn't seem to put much effort into his on-stage attire.

I wondered what all the fuss was about - until I saw that picture.

Funny and relevant anecdote about Charlie Watts (as copied by cracked.com):

The final straw was Jagger's unscheduled wake-up call to Watts during a band meeting in Amsterdam in October 1984. Richards and Jagger had gone out boozing, returning to Richard's room at five in the morning. Watts was fast asleep. Nevertheless, Jagger dialed his room, bawling "Is that my drummer? Why don't you get your arse down here?"

Watts reportedly got up, shaved, got dressed in a custom-made Savile Row suit, put on a crisply knotted tie and freshly shined shoes, came downstairs, and-in Richards' words-"dished him out a great fucking right hook." Jagger was knocked into a plate of smoked salmon, and Richards had to grab his leg to prevent him from sliding along the table, out the open window and into a canal 20 stories below. "Don't ever call me 'your drummer' again," Watts told Jagger. "You're my fucking singer."

I guess he can't really be called a rocker, but Leonard Cohen was/is a very sharp dresser. His dad owned a clothing store.

I have always been impressed by the late Mr Palmer's attire. Particularly in that video.

Apocryphal or not, that is still a ripping good yarn. Never realized from the photos that Mr. Watts was such a dandy.
