I posted this in SW&D, but thought I'd get some opinions the Men's Wear section as it makes sense. I'm in search for a pair of brown boots for work (hospital-environment) that would be well with mainly Uniqlo Vintage Chinos. It would be nice to wear it out dress down with jeans, though I prefer the Buttero Work Boots for that. I'm inclined to go for the Buttero Lace Up in Brown since they look similar to the Work Boot, but part of me feels I should have variety in my shoe collection. Any thoughts? Buttero Lace Up [IMG] or RM Williams Stockman (buckle boot/ jodhpur) [IMG] or RM Williams Comfort Craftsman Chestnut [IMG]

Hmmmm...I'm not much for variety. I always wear RMW's to work. With suits: Craftsman with screwed leather sole or Comfort Craftsman; with slacks, chinos or jeans: Comfort Craftsman. In black or chestnut. My only rule is: never the same pair two days in a row.

    Cheers

I'll check out the RMW chesleas and possibly the buckle boot, though I heard it's not from a single piece of leather.

The Stockman? A jodphur cannot be made as a wholecut due to the way it is designed and constructed.

Having a parent who was a doctor, I wouldn't even consider wearing any shoes with a leather sole to work at a hospital. There are all kinds of situations for you to end up stepping in some pretty sick stuff you won't want getting sucked up into your soles.

Out of those listed above, I'd pick the chelsea everytime.

you prob can get the stockman in a rubber sole, it will be a MTO though.

i was at my local RM williams store and saw a shoe by RMW called the oxford and it was a simple oxford shoe that apeared to be on the craftman last which was very tasteful, i havent contacted steve at nungar yet but does anyone have the product code of the RMW oxford or has anyone else seen it before?
    cheers

Amce: love the screw sole, any difference when wearing them compared to the goodyear welt?

Thanks. For one thing, they are definitely a little tighter than my RTW's in the same size and last. For the moment I'm only wearing them with an appropriate suit and this doesn't happen all that often. I imagine that the French calf will stretch more with time thereof the tightness. The welted models are certainly more "rough and ready", with the welt acting as a bumper, so to speak.

Not sure yet how they'll cope with the autumn and winter here in Sweden yet. That's why the rest of my collection are Comfort Craftsmen with the rubber sole. But you can't beat the screwed sole for sleekness IMHO. Check out Biscotti's post on the porn thread, page 680-681. His screwed sole Macquaries are real beauts.

    Cheers
