I am keeping the 11.5 Gs in tan, although I am also happy with my 11 G in Chestnut from Orvis. The 11.5s don't seem that much longer, but they are a bit wider, however slightly thicker socks seem to remedy that problem.

BTW, has anyone tried antiquing the tan?

May I ask what size you are normally? Say, in the Park Ave?

I have the black and I plan on wearing them with jeans and cords. They might look good with some wool trousers, haven't tried that look yet.

Are those AE, Doc? I don't have any of their shoes, so I'm not sure. I take a 12 medium width in CT and a 11.5E in EG, I also take a 11.5 in Paraboot and a 12 in Grensons/Paul Stuart. 12 in Sutor Mantellassi seems a bit tight in the width to me. I hope this helps.

@grimslade: Mine were chestnut.

@saint: Haven't had time yet, but am going to try antiquing them - although, it would probably be better to antique after a few wears so the polish settles in the creases.

@gamelan: IMHO, black can only really go with jeans, cords, or poplin khakis. For jeans, dark washes go nice with shiny boots, lighter washes with more distressed boots. Cords with either. As for khakis, they probably need to be a lighter vibrant color (yellow, red, light blue) or something military cut - wear latter with distressed boots. Just my two cents.

Mine arrived today. 10.5 wides in black. Quick impressions--the (leather) soles seem better channeled than the pair I returned to Orvis, the leather I'm happy with (although I haven't yet really figured out how to bring out a high shine on them), the fit is good. I bought RMW shoe trees (size L) from the RMW store this morning along with polish. I forgot to buy a bootjack, which I need.

I'm pretty satisfied so far. Plan to wear them with a suit tomorrow.

10.5 UK or US? WHat do you wear in AE Park Avenues (seeing how that has become a bit of a measurement standard

Please post a pic if you get a chance. I'd like to see how they look with a suit.

10.5 H in RMW sizing. My PAs are 11.5 EEEs.

EDIT: I wore my PAs today in the end. So, no pics.

Update on my RMWs. I wore them today all day for the first time. I'm a little concerned that they may be small. In particular, my "ring" toe (for lack of a better word) was rubbing all day. I'm not prepared to write them off just yet, but that seems like a hard spot to break in.

What's frustrating is that I tried on a pair in the RMW store a few months ago, so I thought I'd done my research. But either my memory is faulty, or this pair is smaller than the pair I tried on. I confess I'm already debating how much I want to "abuse" STP's return policy...

Terrific post Sator. I'm curious to try these boots. I believe Ben Silver sells blue jeans made by this maker as well...

I have just updated the text to emphasise the uniqueness of the whole cut construction amongst RTW makers and how it provides greater comfort. In fact I would say RMW's construction of Chelsea boots is in certain ways superior to even that by EG or JL.

Also I found a storm welted model in the RMW catalog and for those who want to wear them in winter, this may be worth noting.

Sator, I would like to thank you for all the tie and effort you have put into this thread. I hope you are getting a cut of all the styleforum RMW purchases from nungar (I ordered mine from him due to your exhaustive work, don't know if I should thank you though
smile.gif
). I'm looking forward to getting them.

BTW I have spoken a bit more to Steve of Nungar by phone. He is a really typical Aussie bloke. He is a farmer who is doing it hard due to the unrelenting drought here and so started an online shop selling Australiana to ease the financial burden. He was selling relatively little until my thread came along and helped put him on the map and suddenly he found himself shipping boots to the UK, the US and as far wide as Greece - all forumites. I do find him hard to track down at times but it seems this is because he is busy on his farm. It is currently the season for his cows to calve and this is keeping him busy. I did warn him to look after forum members as it was in his interest to build a good reputation if he wanted to maintain sales.

ps If forum members overseas have problems with orders contact me and I will try to pin him down by phone. Alternatively you could ring him yourself. He seems to respond better when you talk to him directly than by email.
